Upon successfully finishing this course you will be able to:

Understand the principles of safe proportionate/single handed care

Describe how using a proportionate/single handed care approach promotes the health, wellbeing and enablement of the person being handled.

Understand the requirements for delivering safe proportionate care

Explain the purpose of risk assessments and handling plans, explain the indicators that show proportionate/single handed care may no longer be suitable practice and demonstrate a pre-movement assessment before delivering proportionate/single handed care.

Apply safer proportionate/single handle care practices

Demonstrate the application of safer moving and handling practice using manual and mechanical stand aids, demonstrate application of safer moving and handling practice using in-bed management systems and during the application of slings; and demonstrate pre-checks of mechanical equipment and slings.

Certain requirements will need to be met to successfully host this in-company training course:

Learners must have previous experience in the handling of people
A suitable training venue that meets acceptable health and safety standards and be conductive to learning is required
Suitable equipment will need to be provided to complete moving of people practical assessments and must comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and Lifting and Operation Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
