What does the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Course cover?

 

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

  • Why we should manage workplace health and safety: This module explores the fundamental reasons for managing health and safety in the workplace
  • Fewer hours lost to sickness and accidents: Implementing the knowledge and skills acquired in this course can lead to a reduction in sickness-related absenteeism and the number of accidents in the workplace
  • Managing risk - Understanding people and processes: Understanding and managing risk effectively is a critical aspect of health and safety
  • Health and safety monitoring and measuring: This section deals with the importance of measuring safety performance.
 
It is recommended to do 40 - 60 self-study hours and the unit is assessed by a two-hour written exam consisting of ten short questions and one long answer. Papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Physical and psychological health: Assessing and managing risks related to the physical and psychological wellbeing of employees
  • Musculoskeletal health: Understanding and addressing musculoskeletal health issues in the workplace
  • Chemical and biological agents: Dealing with risks associated with hazardous chemicals and biological agents
  • General workplace issues: A comprehensive overview of common workplace-safety issues
  • Work equipment: Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of work equipment.
  • Fire: Fire safety and prevention measures
  • Electricity: Managing electrical safety in the workplace.
It is recommended to do 40 - 60 self-study hours and the unit is assessed by a three-hour practical assessment.
