Strengthening accident investigation skills at Be One Homes

RoSPA’s Accident Investigation training provided Be One Homes with a timely refresher for experienced advisors and invaluable learning for newer team members.

Staff from housing provider, Be One Homes (formerly Bolton at Home), recently took our Accident Investigation training course. Senior Health Safety and Wellbeing Advisor, Leanne Rukin, leads the team with responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of an organisation employing nearly 1,100 staff. She explains why the organisation chose the training, what staff gained from the experience and how it is already helping shape improved accident and near miss management across the organisation.

Why did you initially decide to take the Accident Investigation course?

“We are looking to introduce a new digital form to support incident reporting and management and we want to ensure our forms and processes are fit for purpose for the whole team, including refresher learning for advisors and new training for our apprentice.”

What did you think of the course?

“The trainer had lots of experience and examples to share. The practical task was useful to show how we all remember a situation differently and reminded us why it is essential to interview witnesses as soon as possible and to preserve the incident site for evidence.”

Would you recommend studying with RoSPA?

“Yes. It was straightforward to book and the team are very responsive.”

What impact has taking the Accident Investigation course had?

“The apprentice said it really helped her to understand the importance of incident investigation and how to conduct it thoroughly. It gave us some suggestions for added fields we can build into our accident and near miss forms too. “

The Accident Investigation training provided Be One Homes with a timely refresher for experienced advisors and invaluable learning for newer team members. Through practical exercises, real‑world examples and expert delivery, the course reinforced the importance of timely evidence gathering, effective witness interviews and robust investigation processes. RoSPA’s Accident Investigation course supports organisations to strengthen their safety culture and improve incident management with confidence.
