Qatari power company Ras Girtas has won big at the internationally-renown RoSPA Health and Safety Awards, being named as the winner in the Electricity Sector.
Ras Girtas, which runs one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world and which is accountable for 30 per cent of Qatar’s power capacity, received its award at a gala dinner at ExCeL London on Tuesday (June 18).
The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards are open to organisations of all sizes from across the wide spectrum of industries, all over the world. The sector awards are presented to organisations with outstanding performance in health and safety within a particular industry or sector. Entrants must be able to demonstrate a robust and high-quality safety management system, together with a minimum of four years' consistently excellent or continuously improving health and safety performance.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards, said: “Judges were impressed by the Ras Girtas entry, which demonstrated an excellent safety management system led by well-evidenced senior commitment to maintaining high standards. Their comprehensive employee involvement helps to engender a culture of pride in achieving such consistently high standards throughout the workforce. We were particularly impressed by their senior management involvement, and third-party auditing and accreditation of the safety management systems used."
While Ras Girtas was named winner in the Electricity Sector, Qatar Power Company – Doha Qatar was also Commended.
The RoSPA Awards scheme, which receives entries from organisations around the world, recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
