Housing association, Trent & Dove, has secured the top honour at RoSPA’s renowned and longest-running health and safety awards ceremony.
After being recognised for their tremendous efforts within the Public Service and Local Government award category, the ‘Social Landlord’ service won the top honour: the Sir George Earle Trophy, an annual prize that recognises the best entry in the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards.
Anna Hickman, Head of Health & Safety at Trent & Dove, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be awarded the Sir George Earle Trophy in 2022, which is a remarkable accolade for a small social housing provider. This has been achieved through years of hard work and the dedication of the health and safety team, leaders and staff at Trent & Dove, who continually strive to improve and innovate.
“We are super excited to be working in partnership with RoSPA over the next 12 months to deliver projects within the social housing sector to reduce accidents in the home and improve health and wellbeing. We also hope to inspire other SMEs to strive for the highest standards of occupational health and safety management.”
The winning of any RoSPA Award is a high point for many businesses, as it is a meaningful acknowledgement of the highly effective and innovative health and safety procedures that have been implemented by a winning company.
Of Trent & Dove, the judging panel noted their highly engaged, driven approach to continually developing health and safety systems that went above and beyond in their pursuit of protecting staff, while positively impacting Trent & Dove’s tenants and their families, which was very much in line with their mission.
The other finalists for the prestigious Sir George Earle Trophy prize were the independent care provider and current Healthcare Services Industry sector winners, Barchester Healthcare, as well as Manufacturing Industry Sector winners L’Oréal’s North Little Rock facility.
Regarding Trent & Dove’s accolade, Errol Taylor, RoSPA’s Chief Executive, said: “The panel were hugely impressed by the pioneering strides Trent & Dove have made over the past 12 months. Their progressive approach to health and safety parallels their ambitious and meaningful ethos, evidenced by the essential and compassionate support they supply to their customers.”
The presentation of the trophy was made during the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards at the ExCel Centre in London. The awards programme is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK, and is now into its 66th year. It recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill-health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
Julia Small, Achievements Director, was present at the gala dinner, which was the first in-person awards ceremony RoSPA has held since 2019. She said: “The recommencing of our awards gala dinner has been a lot of hard work. We wanted to ensure attendees were at ease and in good spirits, especially with the difficult events of the past couple of years.
“Thankfully, due to careful planning to bolster safety measures, and a few surprises here and there, the evening was one to remember, not least because of our compere, Heart FM DJ Ed James and live music, as well as after-dinner entertainment from the likes of Rob Beckett.
“Finally, I would like to thank all the winners who attended, and I am eagerly awaiting the upcoming RoSPA Dubai Awards on May 23, 2022 and our RoSPA Goes Outdoors event on June 23, 2022 at Nunsmere Hall, Cheshire.”
While the majority of awards are non-competitive – recognising individual organisations’ achievements – competitive awards are presented in more than 20 industry sectors and for specialist areas of health and safety management.
