Helping you identify the root causes of accidents

What is accident investigation?

The Labour Force Survey highlighted that 581,000 working people have sustained an injury at work. Accident investigation is carried out in order to determine the cause of an accident so as to prevent further accidents of a similar kind.

What is accident investigation training?

Our one-day accident investigation training will give you a broad understanding of the accident investigation process, looking at the benefits of accident prevention and putting the emphasis on practical training exercises and real-life case studies.

Training is suitable for line managers, supervisors, safety representatives – and anyone with the responsibility for investigating accidents. It will enable organisations to meet their moral and legal obligations to investigate accidents and incidents and learn from safety failure.

"Our results have been excellent – accidents down by 20%, and absences through injury by 13%; and importantly, a safety culture that is well bedded within the whole organisation."

Rear Admiral J de Halpert
Chief Executive & Director of Safety, Trinity House

What does accident investigation training cover?

Our accident investigation training course will help to ensure that your organisation complies with relevant legislation, including Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR). There is no formal assessment for this course. Delegates who successfully complete the accident investigation training in full will receive a RoSPA certificate of training.

  • Principles of accident investigation
  • Benefits of accident prevention
  • Basic concepts of human factors
  • Accident reporting and scope of investigation
  • Accident investigation techniques
  • Stages of accident investigation
  • Practical exercises and case study.

When does an accident investigation process need to be reviewed?

Businesses should monitor and review any measures you have put in place to help control risk and prevent accidents and incidents from happening. Findings from your investigations can form the basis of action to prevent the accident or incident from happening again and to improve your overall risk management. This will also point to areas of your risk assessments that need to be reviewed.

Where can I take accident investigation training?

We recognise that everyone is different, which is why we offer a choice of study routes. You can attend a course via live virtual classroom or have the course delivered in your workplace.
